Microtropolis: Launch of Windows 8 by Moment Factory – view site
Where: Pier 57, New York
For: Mother New York
To mark the launch of Microsoft’s Windows 8 in late October 2012, New York agency Mother asked Moment Factory to help bring to life a giant miniature replica of Manhattan called “Microtropolis”. The team met the challenge by contributing with a huge sun/moon installation that rose and set over the city, giving visitors the illusion of a scaled passage of time, 1 minute equalling 1 hour. This 4-foot animated celestial body played a central role in creating an immersive experience for those wandering the streets and avenues of the 160-foot version of New York City. Using an intricate system of scanners and live streaming, Moment Factory also developed a series of interactive projections, which animated the stylized buildings as visitors walked by.
